Seize the Moment & Use What You Have.
Never neglect the opportunity for a photo. This photo was a snapshot I took at the National Gallery last year. Neila was in her element and delivered a wonderful performance. I didn't go there with the intension of doing serious coverage, I was simply invited by Neila and I just wanted to see some great art and relax. Then I saw the huge skirt spread out on the floor and then she came on the scene, and then instincts took over and this was one of the few frames I liked. Months passed and then I got a text from Neila that Caribbean Beat wanted some contact info from me, then weeks later a cheque in the mail, copy of the mag and in it this image that I thought wasn't destined for anything greater than facebook.
It's small things like these that remind me of three things I was told by my mentors, 1) Always carry your camera, 2) Don't worry about the gear you don't have, use what you have, and 3) Seize the moment. If I didn't keep those things in mind this photo, even though not the most legendary, wouldn't exist and did what it did.
So to all my fellow shutterbugs, new and long timers, keep shooting, you never know what may happen!
Great Shot... and great advice re: using what you have.....
